Patents, trademarks and other intellectual property rights are vital and major elements of Sandvik business operations. Sandvik Intellectual Property AB (SIP) is part of Group Function Legal, with global responsibility for the coordination of Group IP operations, including protecting IP and enforcing IP rights. We are now looking for a Patent Engineer to support business area Sandvik Machining Solutions, in particular Sandvik Coromant, thereby contributing to further strengthening the offer of products and services to the market, with maximum added value for the customers. Job Summary

As a Patent Engineeryou will work in collaboration with a Patent Attorney and have a broad network of contacts, both nationally and internationally, within R&D and the SIP organization, as well as with collaborating external partners. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Communicating with, and providing counseling of, inventors, project managers, R&D managers and product managers

• Harvesting invention disclosures and managing the invention disclosures evaluation process

• Performing prior art searches and analysis

• Assisting in avoiding infringements and ensuring that new products can be launched on the market

• Ensuring that inventions and other intellectual property developed within Sandvik get proper protection and attention

• Performing and reporting competitor patent surveillances

• Assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, preparation and prosecution of oppositions, and Freedom to Operate investigations

• Arranging IP education for the business area

• Assisting in the enforcement of Patent & Design rights

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a Master of Science in Engineering or other relevant academic background, with a genuine interest in working with technology and inventions from Sandvik Coromant to be even more competitive by having a strong patent portfolio. Previous experience of patents is preferred but not a requirement. Experience with Sandvik technology and products, for example, from product development projects within Sandvik Machining Solutions, as well as working with patents in a patent department or patent office, preferably within the field and engineering are meritorious. If you have basic knowledge of the patenting process and competitor monitoring and have completed one or more parts of the European Qualifying Examination, we see that as a plus. Excellent skills in English, both verbal and written, are mandatory. Candidates meeting several of the criteria above are of particular interest for this position.
