Background
This master thesis work will be carried out within Thermal Control Team of Thermal Management that is a part of the department Vehicle propulsion, and have the responsibility for cooling electrical motors, high voltage battery etc. The System consists of both hardware and software, and the functionality and control of these are tested, analyzed, and calibrated to optimize the function.
Scope
In the current day, we have a Thermal Control System that has a Model Predictive Controller for controlling different parameters based on the Battery Cell Temperature. Also, there exist multiple variables to be controlled based on different parameters. Using an algorithm based predictive controller with cost functions would enable easier control of these parameters based on the energy usage cost. The student(s) will initially find the possibilities of including a non-linear predictive controller with cost functions running with the Simulink based plant models. Then their immediate next step would be efficiency improvements to create custom cost functions. Student(s) will then try to pick a use case to demonstrate the difference between traditional control versus an ML based predictive controller with cost functions (incl. custom cost functions).
