The mission for D&A Core is to Transform the data ecosystem to empower our colleagues with trusted data, which supports the Volvo Data Vision of Powering innovation and every decision with trusted data.
The Strategic Data Product team develops data products that are central and of strategic importance for Volvo Cars. As an Engineering Manager you will lead your team in designing, developing, and maintaining robust end-to-end data products that enable data and analytics teams across the organisation to connect the ecosystem and deliver value from data, whilst creating a culture of collaboration and data excellence. You will advocate the practice of applying data engineering principals to ensure the reproducible development of reliable, scalable, and innovative data products.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be leading a committed cross-functional team that develops our strategic data products in collaboration with other teams. By managing people, technology, delivery, and business impact you will be instrumental on our mission to transform the data ecosystem to empower our colleagues with trusted data.
We are in an early phase of our transformation journey so key priorities for this role is to build a dream team through hiring, team development and taking a leading role in setting our direction. In addition, you will together with the Head of Strategic Data & Reporting Products, develop the department towards a newly formed corporate data strategy.
In this role you will:
• Lead and grow a team of hardworking data- and SW engineers through hiring, mentoring, inspiring and feedback.
• Ensure through user feedback and a tight collaboration with our product management team that our data products are prioritized, designed and built to solve our user’s problems.
• Advocate and advance modern, agile data engineering practices.
• Help ensure the solutions are scalable, sustainable, architecturally sound, and technical debt is both incurred consciously and repaid in a reasonable time.
• Be an active member of the Strategic Data & Reporting Products leadership team and collaborate with other leaders across the organization.
We are looking for you who has a genuine interest in people, data, and tech. You are comfortable in leading through ambiguity and empowering your team to act and learn in uncertain and complex environments. You also have experience of building diverse and motivated teams.
Furthermore, you are making sure the mission, strategy and goals are clear and are delegating authority and responsibility to your team members, giving them the autonomy and flexibility to make decisions and take actions.
This is the role for you with several years of experience in the data product engineering space, as an individual contributor and as a leader.
You also have
• Advanced English communication skills.
• Experience working with highly visible projects in an international environment.
• Knowledge or experience of both traditional and modern data engineering practices.
• Knowledge of or experience from data management with focus on data warehousing and master data management .
• Knowledge of public cloud services.
• Knowledge of or experience with Data Mesh and data product concepts.
