Thesis Worker at Volvo Cars
Welcome to explore the world of Volvo Cars by writing your thesis with us! As a thesis worker in our organization you are supported by a supervisor who follows you during your project. All thesis projects are arranged in business critical areas and therefore you will be able to contribute to our company purpose – providing freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way – from day one!
Background
The rapid transformation of the automotive market towards electrification is to great extent driven by the technological improvements in the battery area. Higher energy density and lower cost makes battery electric vehicles competitive and affordable for a wider range of customers. To keep improving we need to dive deeper in several fields of battery development, future battery usage scenarios and battery degradation to minimize the environmental footprint.
Scope
The aim of this thesis work is to develop an advanced methodology of analyzing cell ageing phenomenon via EIS (Electrochemical impedance Spectroscopy) and ICA (Incremental Capacity Analysis).
To test and create analyzing tool that could handle both EIS and ICA. Test cells to detect ageing phenomenon in a non-invasive manner. Cell ageing impacts on EIS-frequency spectra and the shape of the semi-circle, and changes peaks and shifts the dQ/dV curves in ICA during ageing.
Work packages:
• Tear down of battery cells, build of small cells and material analysis.
• Run EIS and ICA for cells during ageing. This to see the migration of frequency and change in EIS-curve and to see shifts and changes in the ICA curves.
• Create a methodology from which it is possible to draw conclusions of ageing phenomenon using both EIS and ICA.
• Develop a script to plot EIS and ICA curves and find key parameters.
Output:
• A good methodology using the methods.
• Be able to detect ageing phenomenon using both methods separately and combined.
• A script to quickly get key parameters from the EIS and to plot ICA data.
What you´ll bring
