The best place to work in the Global Automotive Industry. Join us on this exciting journey into the future, we want to hear from you!
Thesis Worker at Volvo Cars
Welcome to explore the world of Volvo Cars by writing your thesis with us! As a thesis worker in our organization you are supported by a supervisor who follows you during your project. All thesis projects are arranged in business critical areas and therefore you will be able to contribute to our company purpose – providing freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way – from day one!
Background
Volvo Cars commitment in electrification leads us to take the next step in the development of Electric Propulsion Technology - Power Electronics. The Power Electronics department delivers the best-in class inhouse power conversion designs within Electric Vehicle propulsion system such as DC-AC, AC-DC & DC-DC converters. Currently, we are working on our next generation power conversion architectures for future vehicle platforms inorder to optimize the efficiency, power density, weight & cost. The traditional automotive LV power supply system is using 12V as a primary distribution and there is a lot of focus in the industry now to move towards 48V LV distribution system. In this regard, we are looking for passionate students who can contribute to the ongoing feasibility study work for HV to LV DC/DC converter design with 48V output using the design simulation tools (MATLAB, PLECS, Python & any SPICE based tools etc.).
Scope
Design optimization (more specifically pareto optimization) of a specific power conversion topology interms of efficiency, power density etc. w.r.t the right selection of semiconductor & passive components such as inductors, transformers & capacitors. This work also includes the circuit modeling, simulations & lab experiments (if time permits).
What you'll bring
Students with electrical engineering background with strong first principles design approach in power electronics and good simulation knowledge who like work in advance engineering projects are welcome.
Students should typically be available partially on-site.
Duration
• 30 credits/student
• January 2024
• Number of students: preferably 2 students if whole scope is going to be covered
